Genocide Day

Well, it's that time of the year again... The commemoration of Colombus' "discovery" of the North American continent and whitewashing the concomitant subjugation and extermination of indigenous peoples for the next several hundred years... Because it's "Colombus Day" today I felt it'd be appropriate to make mention of some ongoing struggles of native/indigenous peoples out here in the Pacific islands, many of which are territories loosely administered by the United States. In September, I read an article in the paper while I was in Honolulu on the struggle of Micronesian nuclear refugees, who are arriving in droves in Hawai'i to seek treatment for terminal cancer and other illnesses caused by US nuclear testing in their homelands. And of course this stresses the health care system here in Hawai'i, causing a big mess... Rather than summarize or paraphrase these articles, I'll just post them here as links:

Well, that's I can provide for today. This "holiday" disgusts me and I felt like providing this insight into the modern day genocide of indigenous people by the United States is a decent act against the ignorance of these issues...
